HELLO FROM BROOKLYN, NEW YORK
May 19 , 2012

In design, it’s easy to let technology do most of the heavy lifting, but as classically trained artists, we prefer our sketchpad, pencil, and bare naked imaginations. Worstofall, we approach every project this way.

In design, limiting your fonts is accepted as a safe practice. Yet our hand-made lettering is eclecticism, defined. Worstofall, we may even apply different fonts to every letter, without even flinching.

Where design likes to be tidy; we revel in contrarianism. Where it spews rhetoric; we’re glued to substance. True, we’re just a little bit pleased
with our own naughtiness. And that’s the Worstofall.
TRUST US, IT’S THE BEST POSSIBLE THING FOR YOUR BRAND.

That contrast we mentioned? We know the score. Many of you would love for your designs to be edgy. But you’re constrained by mainstream markets, future expansion plans, conservative investors, and other concerns.

That’s where we excel. We are adept at balancing the edgy with the mainstream for a design that’s totally distinctive and yet 100% appropriate.

Cookie cutter designs? Those are for people who follow all the rules.
Here, you only get the Worstofall. And we can’t wait to give it to you.

CREATIVE DIRECTOR / DESIGNER / ARTIST

Educated in advertising but trained as an oil painter, Steven Wasterval’s work can be found both on canvas and in websites. The artist/designer channels a distinctive combination of talent and drive, and the result walks a fine line between the edgy and the commercially appropriate.

Fortunately for clients, Steve’s artistic instincts translate cleanly into a business context. Invariably, he creates each letter, image, and other design element by hand—from scratch—like pieces of intricate artistic masterpiece. The result isn’t something you would ever see coming from your competition—or indeed, any other company. He then projects the prototype into a stream of equally unusual variants, producing a spectrum of options. The toughest part for clients? Having to choose just one.

Steve has navigated life with a nomadic urge—but always with an eye toward interpreting his environment in his artwork. Born in Texas, Steve received his artistic training in Texas, Colorado and Amsterdam, then studied commercial graphic design in Miami, San Francisco and New York. In 2008, he co-founded Worstofall Design.

ACCOUNT MANAGER / NEW BUSINESS

“I’ll handle it,” is Pia Silva’s favorite thing to say. And she means it. By the time you realized the need, Pia’s already done.A born project manager, this self-starter has helmed sold-out art shows, raised funds for the International Planned Parenthood Federation, and launched a thriving coffee & pizza shop in Greenpoint (from hiring to purchasing to hooking up the POS). The New Yorker set her path young: running a dance company and microfinance non-profit in college (Wesleyan) on charm, wit, and extreme wherewithal. These days, Pia chairs the NYC chapter of Wesleyan’s GOLD alumni organization. At events, she relaxes—knowing that everything from volunteers to ice will be there exactly as designed.

Your logos, websites, and presentations are like that, too. From strategy to architecture to usage, there are a thousand considerations large and small. Pia takes ownership of them all. She’s like a friendly tiger—pre-empting all of your needs with grace, sweetness, and a razor-sharp mind.

As manager of Steve Wasterval’s talent, Pia thrives. “If Steve can’t make you something you like, then no one can,” she says. Like Steve, Pia performs her work without ego, giving you the space to provide true feedback, and come away with a design you’re crazy about.
